History of Mijno
MIJNO is a 100 year old family company that strives for excellence in its fields by relying on its most important asset: its human capital.
MIJNO & Fils was founded in 1919 by Joseph MIJNO to produce sprockets for bicycles. Saint-Etienne was then the « capital of arms and cycles »! Driven by the little queen, the company grew rapidly and in a few years went from 2 to 30 employees.
In the 1950s his four sons Jean, Adrien, Henri and Louis took over the company.
From the 1960s onwards, the company developed through external growth, absorbing several companies which enabled it to diversify its know-how and develop in new markets.
- 1965: First rack and pinion
- 1968: First planetary gearbox
- 1970 : First bevel gear
- 1978 : First planetary gearbox with reduced backlash
- 1979 : First ground gear
- 1997 : Creation of the American subsidiary in Chicago by François MIJNO, the third generation
- 2002 : First rectified rack and pinion
- 2006 : First complex assembly under customer specifications
- 2008 : First mechatronic assembly
- 2014 : First special gearbox under aeronautical specifications
- 2016 : Opening of MIJNO GEARS USA, sales & marketing office in the USA (California)
MIJNO is now managed by Gregory MIJNO, the fourth generation.
This management stability guarantees the respect of our long-term commitments, the continuity of our quality policies, and the search for a relationship of trust with our customers, employees and subcontractors.
This stability is also a favourable condition for the application of our policy of continuous improvement.
MIJNO is ISO 9001 certified, employs 85 people and uses 150 machines in 2 production units in Saint-Etienne and Saint-Chamond (Loire). All production is (and will remain!) carried out in France, 55% of which is exported by our MIJNO GEARS USA sales office in California and by an efficient distribution network in the rest of the world.
MIJNO has acquired over the years a unique know-how in the design and production of complex and precise transmission elements. Regular investment in state-of-the-art equipment and ongoing training of our staff ensure that we control the entire design and production process to meet the highest quality standards.
To this end, positions of responsibility are held by employees who have benefited from internal promotions and have thus accumulated knowledge. In addition, we recruit, reward and develop our employees according to their respect for the following values: leadership, passion and integrity.
